About Us

Richard Lockyer, Co-owner of Highfield Vets has been established in Broxbourne and Cheshunt for more than 40 years.

Way back in the 1980’s Richard and his wife Hilary were living in Broxbourne and were heavily involved in RSPCA rehoming and neutering which led to the decision to start their own Veterinary Practice in White Stubbs Lane, along with just one veterinary nurse.

The business started to grow, and in 1988 they acquired a property in Longfield Lane, Cheshunt, followed by the moving the Broxbourne branch in 1997 into its current property, and our trading name Highfield Veterinary Surgery was officially established.

In 1999 our Practice Manager Janice joined the team, and we today have 20 employees, some of whom have been with us for over 10 years.

In 2010 Richard’s daughter, Hayley, left her 20 year career as an Accountant to become a full-time mum. Whilst at home she took on the accounting for the business and eventually took over more of the financial management. 

In 2023 Hayley officially became a Co-Owner, overseeing all aspects of day-to-day running of the business, and Richard semi-retired. 

You will still see Richard in the Practice at times, but after more than 40 years, he is enjoying a well deserved, more restful time at home!
